Who is using Honda engines in F1 2026?
It’s been a tough start to the year for Aston Martin, who are heading into this season with a works power unit partner for the first time in their history in the shape of Honda. The news is official, and it’s notable — Japanese manufacturer Honda will be returning to Formula 1, supplying Power Units to Aston Martin beginning in 2026! This came after the automaker “quit” Formula 1 in 2021. A new partnership and plan is in place, and it also has a name — the Aston Martin Aramco Honda Team.
What engine does F1 use in 2022?
Just as last year, the engines are 1. V6 turbo hybrids producing close to 1,000bhp. But their architecture has changed and so has the split between internal combustion engine (ICE) and electrical parts of the power-units. What’s happening under the hood? A lot. While the core is still a 1. V6 turbo hybrid, the power balance has shifted significantly. From 2026, the internal combustion engine output has been cut while the electric motor has tripled, meaning we’ve got roughly a 50-50 power split between petrol and electric.
