How long is the waiting list for a Motability car?
Check availability – If you are an existing Motability customer this is not as important as you will be notified well in advance of your renewal date. However, if you are a new customer some vehicles may need to be manufactured and have a waiting time of up to 12 months. If you’re coming to the end of your Motability lease, you might be hoping to buy your car and keep it. However, since December 2023, Motability no longer allows customers to purchase their leased vehicles directly.
Can you buy your Motability car after 5 years?
No, you’re not able to buy the Motability Scheme vehicle at the end of your lease. A: You can’t buy your Motability car after three years but at the end of your lease agreement you have three options: Choose another car to lease another car for three years. Extend your current car lease (only available in the last three months of your agreement.You’ll need to return your vehicle at the end of your lease. We recommend you start exploring your options early and apply for your next lease three months before your current one ends, so you have the best chance that your new car is ready to go when you are.Buying an ex-Motability can be a great way to get a nearly new car for a bargain price. Most Motability leases end after three years, so the car won’t be much older than this and there can be some great discounts to be had.
What cars are being removed from the Motability Scheme?
As well as Mercedes and BMW, other brands being removed as part of the change include Audi, Alfa Romeo and Lexus. The brands are no longer available to select as options on the Motability website. From 25th November 2025, luxury cars from brands including BMW, Audi, Alfa Romeo, Lexus and Mercedes will no longer be available, with immediate effect. Coupes and convertibles from any manufacturer have also been removed from the charity’s price list.
How long does VW Motability last?
Leases generally run for three years from the date you got your car, or five years if you have a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle ( WAV Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle). You’ll see this date on your lease agreement. You can take your Motability Scheme car or Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV) abroad for uplink to 90 days within a 12-month period.
